Running machines in the UAE
What to sort out before you launch.
A short planning guide, not legal advice. Rules differ by emirate and free zone, so confirm with the authority for your site.
Trade licence
Vending operations need a trade licence that covers the activity, on the mainland or in a free zone. The right one depends on where your machines will stand.
Food safety approvals
Machines selling food or drinks fall under the municipality’s food-safety rules in each emirate. Some sites also ask for their own approvals.
VAT
UAE VAT is 5%. Quotes for imported machines show duty and VAT separately.
Heat and power
Chilled machines in semi-outdoor spots need shade and ventilation. Power is 230 V with UK-type plugs.
